A person who contaminated treats with tranquilliser and provided them to minors at a summer program in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two children both nine and 10.

The accused was detained after eight youngsters and a grown-up fell ill at the facility in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the judicial center on Friday.

Nevertheless, he denied one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a young boy.

Ruben was kept in jail before a subsequent court date on 28 November.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, outlined the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She said his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.

The defendant engaged in a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel explained, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She told the court the man had conducted this practice with the boys "repeatedly", and minors had previously fallen ill the next day.

She said the man had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had concerns in summer 2025.

The prosecutor stated further: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about what was going on, for good reason.

"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC explained items including lubricant, Vaseline and injection devices were located, and his stepson alerted the authorities about his concerns.

She stated the man proceeded to conduct the "candy game" with six youngsters that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the following morning.

"The police had not responded by that point," she continued.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating the police response of the incident.

Mrs Prior said the children were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the family member notified the authorities a second time.

She stated the man then played the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
