The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device

It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
