Vehicles in Germany's City Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police stated they were contacted by a resident who noticed a car in Hanau covered with red-colored fluid

Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Police say they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.

The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.

Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Officials say early analysis suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; officials are currently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for details.

A senior political figure stated the incident left him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine people by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
